Project Updates: Aset/Isis, Nephthys and Lioness Books

So I have three projects that I am working on intensively at the moment.  One of them is Mother of Magic: Ancient Hymns for Aset.  This book has hymns from Philae, Dendera, Soknopaiou Nesos, Shanhur and some New Kingdom texts.   There is also an updated festival calendar and epithets list.  I’m waiting on the cover artist.

The other project is Flaming Lioness: Ancient Hymns for Egyptian Goddesses.  This is a collection of ancient hymns to different Eye of Ra Goddesses.  So far I have hymns to: Aset/Isis, Nebet Het/Nephthys, Hethert/Hathor, Tefnut, Sekhmet, Mut, Menhyt, Nit/Neith and Seshat.  I’m still collecting other material and waiting on some permissions.

The third project is She Who Speaks Through Silence: An Anthology for Nephthys.  This is an anthology for Nebet Het (Nephthys), the Sister of Aset (Isis).  This anthology has ancient hymns, a festival calendar, an epithets list, modern rituals, poetry, essays/articles and a fiction story.  I’m adding more epithets and I’m almost done with the final edits.

More Philae!

So, Hermann  Junker began recording Inscriptions from the Temple of Philae, which became his book Der grosse Pylon des Tempels der Isis in Philae and Hermann Junker along with Erich Winter published this book Philae II Das Geburtshaus des Tempels der Isis in Philae.   I translated from these two books for the Temple of Philae section in Lady of Praise, Lady of Power.

Now, finally, there is a volume three!  Holger Kockelmann (author of Praising the Goddess) and Erich Winter now have published this book Philae III: Die Zweite Ostkolonnade Des Tempels Der Isis in Philae (CO II und CO II K).

I am so excited to read and (hopefully translate from) this book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wepwawet Update

Lord Strength Power ebookcoverI ordered the proof copy of Lord of  Strength and Power: Ancient Hymns for  Wepwawet.

Here  is  what the back blurb says:

Presented here is a collection of ancient hymns for the ancient Egyptian god, Wepwawet.  He is a scout, guide and guard.  He is a god of strength, a guide for travelers, a protector of kings, a protector of cemeteries, a protector of Osiris and a son of Isis.  He leads the way in war, ritual processions, the path of the sun’s journey and the path of the soul through the Underworld.  He is associated with jackals, dogs, wolves and greyhounds.

Within, Lord of Strength and Power, you will find:

  • Hymns and Prayers from the city of Asyut
  • Hymns from the cities of Abydos and Karnak
  • A list of His Names and Titles
  • A Festival Calendar

Chelsea Bolton has a BA and a MA in Religious Studies from the University of South Florida (2009).  She is the author of Lady of Praise, Lady of Power: Ancient Hymns of the Goddess Aset and Queen of the Road:  Poetry of the Goddess Aset.  Her poetry has been previously published in various anthologies.  You can read more of her work at her blog address: http://fiercelybrightone.com

Update on Wepwawet Book

So,  I have gotten sick again.  I  have more  medicine from the doctor.  Hopefully, this will do it.  I’ve been sick for a month now.  I beat the cold,  but I am still coughing.  They are going to  take a  chest x-ray if this doesn’t stop in  a  8 days.

Anyway, on to the Wepwawet book.  I’m  editing it still  and haven’t sent it to the  formatters yet.  I added a  small section  for Yinepu (Anubis) because He is Wepwawet’s twin and I  don’t know where else I would include  it.  In the Yinepu section, I  have a  hymn,  a festival calendar,  an epithets list, a syncretism list and  a sacred symbols list.

Everything else pertains only to Wepwawet,  pretty much.

Books, Books and More Books!

Since my book is coming out soon, I thought I’d show you some of the books I used in my research. (Not all of them are here as some I got through the library and I had to return them).  I feel like Twilight Sparkle from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.  I’m getting all excited (adorkable) over books!

This collection has taken me over 15 years to build.  I just wanted to share this with others in order to share my joy.  I do not have a lot of money.  I buy books new (if it is within my budget), used or on sale.  (Here is an article I wrote about finding books online:  Books and Where to Find Them).  Continue reading “Books, Books and More Books!”
