In Memoriam

Laura Janesdaughter, an FOI ArchPriestess and a Priestess of Isis passed away on May 27, 2013.

Years ago, when I first found Isis/Aset, I remember emailing her a couple of times. She helped me and was great to talk to.

May She be embraced by Aset and carried to the West in Her Arms.

PBP2013: I is for Isfet

Isfet is a Kemetic concept that is often described as “uncreation” or the “opposite of Ma’at”. This force is connected to Apep and one is an agent of the other.

The Gods and Goddesses, Aset among Them, fight Apep every night and defeat it come the dawn. Ra, Aset and Set are instrumental in this act.

So, the Gods and Goddesses hold evil at bay. But what is it? And how do we fight it in our daily lives?

I’m not an expert on this by any means, but I feel compelled to contemplate this so hear are my thoughts.

Anytime you do not create because of fear, you are not bringing into existence what could be made manifest. Think about that for a minute. We are agents of creation too. We create art, beauty, what is desired. If we don’t do this, who will? Only you can be who you are. Only you can do what you do.

Who will do this if you do not?

It does not matter how subjectively “good” or not it is. There is no one idealistic perfection here and everything else is meaningless. Plurality is the essence of creation. Think about this for a minute.

First there was Nun the Primordial Ocean or Waters. A God or Goddess came out of those Waters and created the First Sunrise, the First spark of Life. And then as the sun has many rays, the Creator or Creatrix created many. Or as one myth puts it, “one became millions”. There are many Gods and Goddesses with many manifestations. Nature is filled with their various theophanies and other natural manifestations. The One Became a Multitude.

This is the essence of creation.

Differentiation from Nun, from Oneness.

Plurality is what maintains creation.

So the next time someone tells you, you should be honoring only this One True Way, remind them that creation is maintained by many. Not One Single Thing.

For that is what Isfet/Apep wants. Singleness. Oneness. Undifferentiatedness. So that Creation does not exist. So that Creation never happened. So that all existence, including the Gods and Goddesses Themselves could be Un-named, Unmade, Uncreated. So that They (and We) never were.

There is no One True Way. There is no One True Voice.

There are many voices and many ways.

And all lead to the creation of what could be.

Give to the Mothers

Today is the Day of the Mothers
Living and Dead
Today honor the Mothers
The Disir of your clan
The Matronae of your Hall
Hail, Hail the Mothers
On this day honor your Mother
with gifts of flowers and wine
or favorite token of love
Something she needs
Something she wants
give to your Mother
And honor her Mother and those that have gone before
with wine or beer, milk or honey
give to the Ancestral Dead
give to the Mothers
give to your Mother
give to the Goddesses
for nothing can manifest without their blessing

This is My Power

Cleaning is an art
It is a magical force
It takes power to defeat entropy
This is the power you exert when you clean
You are keeping the darkness at bay
The Uncreated can not touch what is pure
For this is the essence of creation
For this is the essence of magical power
This is My Power
These are My words
These are My hands
that wipe away what stagnates
that wipe away what deadens
that wipe away what numbs
This is My Power
as the Goddess of Purity
as Tayet
I drive away darkness and decay
of body and soul
of house and home
of shrine and temple
This is My Power
as the Magician of the Cloth
Robes worn by mummies or Priests
Robes worn by Priestesses or Wabs
This is My Power
I am the Goddess who clears the way
I keep evil and entropy at bay

Please Weave for Us

Mother of Gods
Lady of the Spindle
Please weave for us a kind fate
Please weave clouds of plenty
so our fields are filled with food
to feed our hungry mouths
Please weave for us the wisdom
to see what is the wisest course of action
in our lives
Please weave for us a kind fate
Please weave for us the words we need to say
so that our words hold truth, not falsehood
Please weave for us the wisdom to keep silent
for silence is the place of secrets
that only those who gaze into starlight can know
Please weave for us a safe harbor
a hearth and home filled with blessings, family and love
Please weave for us the light of stars
so the light in our hearths and candles
may be like the flame of stars of the Queen of Heaven
Please weave for us, Great Goddess
Please weave for us, All Mother
Please weave for us, Bright Lady of Stars

PBP2013: H is for Holy Tide

Today is Beltane or Walpurgisnacht also known as Witches’ Night or May Day. Today is a day of creativity, beauty, love and fertility. And magic.

Today is a day to honor Frigga, as the daughter of Earth Giants and the Goddess of spinning, crafts and some creative arts; a goddess of love, a goddess of childbirth, fertility and all of nature, a beautiful lady of magic and wisdom.

Today is a day to do magic. Today is a day for oracles and divination. Today is the day to ask about fate.

Today is a day of blessing of land, crops, hearth and home.

Today is a day of bonfires. Holy flames marking sacred space and the light of the Hearth-Mothers gone before.

Today is a day of making offerings to the Goddesses, Disir and land-wights. Today is a day of witchcraft, spells and oracles.

Today is a day of dancing and joy.

Today is a day of banishing illness, misfortune and harm.

Today is a day of beseeching protection of your home and hearth from foul weather, storms and ill-fate.

Today is a day of a Holy Tide.
