Reconstruction is a Lie

Wonderful post by Kiya!

Peaceful Awakenings: Reflections of Egypt

I’ve been going around and around again on whether or not I can call myself a “reconstructionist”. Whether my standards of truth allow for the sort of truthiness that is required to use that concept at all.

The illusion of reconstruction is that the process results in something that is “what the ancients/the ancestors practiced”. That’s the inner mythology. And that’s the lie. The big one. The imaginary comfortable place that lets people believe that they’re digging in to finding something secretly More True than what they had before.

It’s comforting. It’s comfortable. It’s complacent.

And it’s wrong.

I started out early on sort of acknowledging this, the fact that all I’ve got is my own research, my own interpretation, and what I pick up from other people.

And I write about the problems. I’ve written about knowing the mortar that is used to line the broken blocks that are…

Books, Books and More Books!

Since my book is coming out soon, I thought I’d show you some of the books I used in my research. (Not all of them are here as some I got through the library and I had to return them).  I feel like Twilight Sparkle from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.  I’m getting all excited (adorkable) over books!

This collection has taken me over 15 years to build.  I just wanted to share this with others in order to share my joy.  I do not have a lot of money.  I buy books new (if it is within my budget), used or on sale.  (Here is an article I wrote about finding books online:  Books and Where to Find Them).  Continue reading “Books, Books and More Books!”

Brightest of Light

Kiya Nicoll, author of The Traveller’s Guide to the Duat: Amenti on Two Deben a Week
wrote a blog post about the calculation of calendars and the position of Sopdet.

The post is here: I Love it when a plan comes together

What she found out was that the date where the sun and Sopdet are closest? Aset Luminous.

Aset’s Yearly Cycle

Kiya Nicoll, author of The Traveller’s Guide to the Duat: Amenti on Two Deben a Week, wrote a post on her blog which inspired the musings below: Calendric Rhythms

After reading her post, I had these thoughts about Aset’s Yearly Cycle. So here are my musings.

And now I’m thinking of my own Aset Yearly Post where Akhet is Her in Mourning and Change (Transformation is a type of change). I am also reminded that Her Marriage Festival and the Mysteries are right next to each other. Peret is where Aset and Heru avenge Wesir and Heru is established at King. Aset here is the King-Maker and Avenging Goddess. Shomu are the months of the Heat of the Eye of Ra, the solar and stellar brightness permeate all of creation from both the Seen and Unseen realms (Aset has a lot of fire festivals here both solar and stellar ones). And the Days Upon the Year bring renewal, dissolution of the old and rebirth for Aset is born on Her Day and on New Year’s as the Star Sopdet bringing the power of the flood to being again.

Thank you for such a great post! I’m having thoughts!
